On June 17, 20222, the World Bank’s Rome Program on Jobs and Labor Mobility and the Luiss Guido Carli University hosted the presentation of the new World Bank Flagship report “Building Resilient Migration Systems in the Mediterranean Region: Lessons from COVID-19”.
Migration has been a source of social and economic well-being for communities on both sides of the Mediterranean. As the COVID-19 pandemic severely disrupted this important driver of development, it created momentum for policy reforms. This report points to a vision of migration resilience and suggests a set of actions that can help Mediterranean countries maximize the benefits of migration while ensuring the sustainability of migration flows.
The event featured the report’s author and a panel of experts who discussed how a more resilient migration system would help to address labor shortages, sustain household incomes and enhance the wellbeing of both migrant and native populations for generations to come.
This was the first public event within the platform for knowledge exchange on jobs and migration set up by the Rome Program on Jobs and Labor Mobility, which is one of the programs hosted by the World Bank Rome Center for Development Data (C4D2) to foster evidence-based policy making.
